Diwali, the Festival of Lights
A festival also known as the “Festival of Lights”, Diwali is one of the most important festivals of the year and is celebrated in families by performing traditional activities together in their homes. Diwali involves the lighting of small clay lamps (dīpa in Sanskrit: दीप) filled with oil to signify the triumph of good over evil. These lamps are kept on during the night and one’s house is cleaned, both done in order to make the goddess Lakshmi feel welcomed. Firecrackers are burst in order to drive away evil spirits.
During Diwali, all the celebrants wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks with family members and friends. Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama, along with Sita and Lakshmana, from his 14-year-long exile and vanquishing the demon-king Ravana. This year, Diwali will be celebrated by all Hindus around the world on the 29th of October 2016. You may expect to see rows or stalls around Brickfields during mid of October until mid of November offering all sorts of incense, Hanna tattoos and decorations of assorted lights and colors.
May millions of lamps illuminate your life with endless joy, prosperity, health and wealth, PODs wishes all Hindus a happy and bright Diwali!

Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Chinese New Year is a month long celebration and the most important festivity in the Chinese calendar. The origin of Chinese New Year is itself centuries old and gains significance because of several myths and traditions. Houses are decorated with lanterns and red cloth and paper-cuts with themes of “good fortune” or “happiness”, “wealth”, and “longevity”.
It is also traditional for every family to thoroughly cleanse the house, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for good incoming luck. On the Eve of Chinese New Year, supper is a feast with families. Food will include such items as porks, ducks, chicken and sweet delicacies. The family will end the night with firecrackers.
Early the next morning, children will greet their parents by wishing them a healthy and happy new year, and receive money in red paper envelopes. The Chinese New Year tradition is to reconcile, forget all grudges and sincerely wish peace and happiness for everyone.
February 2016 is the Lunar New Year and the Chinese Year of the Monkey. The Monkey is part of a 12-year-cycle of animals that make up the Chinese zodiac. May this Year of the Monkey bring energy for high principles and prosperity.

Have a blessed Ramadan..!
Ramadan is a period of fasting, reflection, devotion, generosity and sacrifice observed by Muslims around the world. It is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar where from dawn to dust Muslims refrain themselves from consuming foods, drinks, smoking and engaging in sexual relations. The feeling of hunger and thirst will give them more feeling of sympathy towards those people in the world who have little or even nothing to eat. Fasting is obligatory for adult Muslims, except those who are ill, travelling, pregnant, diabetic or going through menstrual bleeding.
Ramadan is a time of spiritual reflection, improvement and increased devotion and worship. Throughout this holy month, Muslims are also encouraged to increase charity, generosity and goodwill towards others especially those who are in needs. It is a time to further improve self control by continuously practice good manners, good speech and good habits. This is also to strengthen the bonds and ties with family and friends. Ramadan is much more than just not eating and drinking.
PODs wishes all Muslims a blessed Ramadan!

Contact Improvisation Fundamentals Workshop
ITS BACK !!! Contact Improvisation Fundamentals Workshop, July 7th. Contact improvisation is notoriously hard to describe. At the basis of the practice are the physical contact between two or more partners, the relation to gravity, and to the momentum of moving bodies. It’s about letting go of excess tension, waking up the reflexes and sense of balance, and working with weight. It is a very subtle way of interacting and negotiating through touch and movement.
The Workshop aims to provide some basic contact improvisation vocabulary: how to share weight; follow a rolling point of contact; give all one’s weight to someone else; make yourself light; modulate your weight; lift someone up; get used to being upside down; offer a plateau; connect to one’s center; use momentum; extend into falling; have your landing gear ready…
Schedule: Sunday July 7th 2013 12:00 – 17:00
Fee: MYR 65 (includes MYR 15 registration fee) No one turned away due to lack of funds.
Venue: PODs, No 30 Jalan Thambipillay, Brickfields, 50470 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Wesak Day 24th May
The significance of Wesak lies with the Buddha and his Universal peace message to Mankind. Wesak Day falls in the month of May and is considered to be the most important festival for Buddhists in Malaysia. This day is celebrated in order to observe the birth, enlightenment and death of Lord Gautama Buddha. Different countries celebrate Wesak Day on different days due to the difference in the local lunar observance. When translated Buddha literally means ‘one who is awake and has become enlightened’. This particular term is used to describe a person that has obtained supreme wisdom as well as the compassion of Enlightenment. The concept of Enlightenment for Buddhists can be described as a blessed stated in which the individual attains Nirvana (transcendence of desire and suffering).
On this particular day the Malaysian Buddhist devotees will begin the celebrations usually even before dawn where they will gather at the temples. The Buddhists will then hoist the Buddhist flag and sing hymns in praise of the holy triple gem namely; The Buddha, The Dharma (his teachings) and The Sangha (his disciples). Simple offerings are also brought to the temple such as flowers while prayers using candles and joss-sticks are used. A Wesak day procession is held every year starting from Buddhist Maha Vihara in Brickfields, just a 10min walk from PODs.
